2010 The Hawk by Te Muna Valley Wines, Redbank Estate
Anise, peat and stewed cherries with caramel on the nose. Crisp leather with pomegranate molasses, and treacle on the palate; a slightly metallic liquorice finish the lingers. A lot of intense flavours, but it is delicate.
Food Match: we had this wine without food, and it is very delicate - so at most a simple tomato based pasta or charcuterie with subtle cheeses.
We paid about 12$ for this wine, taking a bit of a chance on it... and it paid off. You don’t always get lucky, but when you do...!!
The age is really showing in the colour, and the palate, so definitely one to drink now, and a real treat.
